An FE approach to limiting peri-implant bone resorption

In the fall 2012 semester I took a course in analytical biomechanics.  The capstone project for the course was to develop and conduct an FE model of a failed implant to attempt to explain the implant’s failure.  Though I would have preferred to use the opportunity to gain experience in Ansys, Abaqus, or Nastran we were constrained by the professor to a specific FEA package (Solidworks Simulation).  Within the confines of this requirement, I did my best to not only test an implant’s failure, but also gain insights into possible solutions for future implant design.  This is the report as it was presented for the class.
